Final year varsity students nabbed for gun possession

KWARA state police command has paraded two final year university students and one other person for allegedly being in possession of illegal firearms.

They are Omoshagba Gbenga, Gidado Tope and Olanrewaju Moshood.

Items recovered from them include two-locally made pistols and 26 pieces of fake N1,000 currency notes.


Speaking with journalists in Ilorin while parading the suspects, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olufemi Fabode, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the three suspects were arrested following a tip-off, adding that the suspects confessed to be members of secret cult.

“Two of the suspects also claimed to being final year students of a tertiary institution in Ekiti State and were in Ilorin to visit the first suspect.

“Investigation also revealed that the recovered guns were illegally acquired by the suspects for secret cult activities and for the purpose of committing robbery”, he said, adding that the suspects would be charged to court accordingly.

Also paraded were three robbery suspects who specialised in motorcycle theft.

Fabode said that items recovered from them included one-locally made pistol, two live cartridges, two motorcycles, receipt booklets and two stamps.

The PPR0 said the robbery suspects were arrested by men of the police operatives from ‘B’ Division, Ilorin on October 4, 2012 while acting on information.

He said that the items were recovered when the police went to search the suspects’ residence at Agbo Oba area of Ilorin.

“I investigation conducted has revealed that the suspects belonged to a gang which specialised in robbery and stealing of motorcycles. The suspects would soon be arraigned in court while efforts are still on to arrest other gang members still at large,” the PPRO said.
